Inspired by the Great Exhibition of 1851, and comprising artworks, historical and modern objects from around the world, the 1862 Exhibition was held over the road from the South Kensington Museum and opened to the public on 1 May. It is not known whether Crowe’s designs were accepted or ever made into mosaics.
