This drawing was offered for auction by Cheffins Auctioneers of Cambridge on 16 March 2005, with an estimate of £80-£120. It was part of a sketchbook of Eyre Crowe’s dating from 1843. His trip to Germany later inspired the paintings Returning from Church and Village Fountain (both 1869).

Eyre Crowe (1824-1910)

Eyre Crowe was a Victorian painter of historical and genre works of art, who exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1846 to 1908.
