Crowe spent the late summer of 1893 in the Boulogne region in France, and spent many days sketching and painting a farmhouse at Denacre, the end result of which was probably this picture.
A painting of exactly the same size (23 x 30 inches) was sold after Crowe’s death under a different title. It is quite possibly the same picture. Landscape with Trees and Old Buildings. Medium: oil painting or sketch. Size: 23 x 30 inches. Auctioned by Messrs Furber, 22 Feb 1911 (12s)
