This small painting is dated October 3rd 1855. The name of the place is also given, but is hard to read. At the beginning of 1855, Crowe was living in Paris, so this may be somewhere on the French coast. However, by 1856 he had moved to London, and this sketch may represent a holiday on the British south coast.
