  3. Barbara says:

I’ve been researching a name in our family records as Sir Joseph Archer Crowe. I have a photo of Elizabeth Crowe that was born 1816 and she might be daughter to Captain Eyre Evans Crowe.

  4. brian crowe says:

I am a great grandson of Sir Joseph Arrcher Crowe, who was a distinguished art historian and diplomat and had an equally distinguished son, my grandfather Sir Eyre Crowe who became head of the British Foreign Office.

Tell me (blcrowe@gmail.com) more about yourself and your antecedents and I may be able to tell you more about how you are related to Joseph Archer Crowe.

    Brian Crowe

I am the granddaughter of Amy Crowe she had two sisters Olive and Mini Maybe you will be able to enlighten me about my ancestors

      • Kathryn Summerwill says:

        Hello Hstorie,
I can only comment on the family history of Eyre Crowe and his Victorian and Edwardian relatives. The only Amy Crowe that I am aware of was Eyre Crowe’s sister Amy, who died in 1862. Have you tried the census returns and registrations of births, marriages and deaths to find out who your great-grandmother was? Good luck in your family history research,
        Kathryn

    • brian crowe says:

My family tree shows Amy as the third child, and second daughter (the first was Eugenie), of Eyre Evans Crowe and Margaret Archer. Her older brothers were Eyre, who became an artist, and Joseph, who became an art historian and diplomat. She had no sisters called Olive and Mini. She married General Sir Edward Thackeray and had daughters called Margaret and Amy, but their surname would of course have been Thackeray not Crowe. So I suspect your ancestor Amy Crowe was not any of these

  5. Elizabeth Raikes says:

I have some watercolours done by a miss or ‘missus’ Crowe in Corsica between 1910-1916. From a photo she looks about 20-30, I am trying to find out anything about her.

    • Kathryn Summerwill says:

Hello Elizabeth. I’m sorry but I can’t help you. I don’t know enough about the wider Crowe family to know if any of Eyre Crowe’s nieces, for instance, had any connection with Corsica. Other members of his family were artistic, I’m sure, but it does not ring any bells in connection with the research I have done on Eyre Crowe himself. Thanks for getting in touch, Kathryn.

  6. Elizabeth Raikes says:

    Dear Kathryn
Thank you for your prompt response. If I do ever discover anything I will let you know.
    Best wishes
    Elizabeth

  7. I am a decedant from margret crowe. My father who had passed hastold me some of the history is anything from the Crowe family buried in michigan? Plz request.ghollstn@gmail.com

    • Leslie Crowe says:

There is a Margaret Crowe she was born in 1841. she was the daughter of William B Crowe. William was the son of Richard Robert Crowe and Anna Wilson, who came to Canada. Many of William B Crowe’s family went to Snohomish County, Washington. This would be my Crowe line. Richard Robert Crowe also had a daughter Margaret born 1816. My Crowe line is in Nova Scotia, My dad is now 92 years young and his Brother 91.

  8. Kathryn Summerwill says:

    Dear Glenda,

Thanks for getting in touch. None of the members of the Crowe family in this family tree were buried in Michigan, as far as I know. To my knowledge, the descendants of Margaret Crowe, d 1853 (Eyre Crowe’s mother), all lived in England or Germany, not the USA. Is it this Margaret Crowe that you are descended from? A few generations further back, Richard Robert Crowe (1728-1821) settled in Nova Scotia, Canada, and founded a branch of the Crowe family in Canada and the US – perhaps you are part of this line? Unfortunately I do not know anything about these descendants as I am only interested in the immediate members of the family of the Victorian artist Eyre Crowe.

I’m sorry I can’t help further at the moment,

    Best wishes,

    Kathryn

  9. My branch of the Crowe family come from Billingham, Spennymoor,Durham,Hartlepool in the 15 16, 17,1800s through to the present day, They have moved to different parts of the world. Hi Robert,
The only method of truly knowing if one is or has a distant relative
is thru dna analysis. Haave you had your dna tested?
      Rgds,

  10. Kathryn Summerwill says:

Dear Robert, your family sounds very interesting! Eyre Crowe’s brother Edward Crowe lived in Middlesbrough in the 1860s and 1870s. Perhaps he came across some of your ancestors sharing the same surname. Kathryn

  11. H Storie says:

I am the granddaughter of Amy Crowe she has said that her mother was a actress she had two sisters Olive and Mini Do you have any information about them?

  12. Leslie Crowe says:

Very interesting info Tyvm much for sharing. William Richard Crowe wife Emilia Eyre Evans would have been my 6th Great Grandparents. My line is with their son Richard Robert Crowe who came to Canada. He died in Horton’s, Kings CO N.S. His son William Blascot Crowe Birth Abt. 1780 in Perth Amboy, NJ or Staten Island, NY, Death 25 May 1854 in Horton and Cornwallis, Kings, Nova Scotia, married Margaret Murray 1780 – 1858. My brother and I just recently found the grave site and headstone’s for William Blascot Crowe and some of his children in Kentville N.S. We were hoping to find Richard Robert Crowe’s but had no luck.

    Leslie Crowe

  13. Kathryn Summerwill says:

Hello Leslie, thank you for sharing your family tree information. It’s interesting to know more about the wider Crowe family! All the best, Kathryn

  14. Allegra says:

Good day! I am a descendant of Thomas Eyre Crowe, of the illegitimate line. I have recently been researching my ancestry and had hit a wall here, so I am very glad I found this tree! Can you tell me, though, what you mean by “married Anne Regina Muddiman and had issue”? I would love more information about them!

    • Kathryn Summerwill says:

Hello Allegra. “Had issue” means that he had children. However, because those children may still be alive, I have a policy of not naming them publicly on this blog. I will contact you privately about this line of the family tree. Best wishes, Kathryn

  15. Jennifer Crowe says:

My name is Jennifer Crowe. My father is Thomas Lynn Crowe. His father was Thomas Lyodd Crowe. Thomas Lyodd had brothers- Edward and Robert. Their father was Odell. Any info would be great!

    • Kathryn Summerwill says:

Hello Jennifer, and thanks for getting in touch. Lyodd and Odell aren’t names that I recognise in Eyre Crowe’s family tree. If your branch of the Crowe family is American, it’s possible that you are descended from Richard Robert Crowe (1728-1821), army officer, who died in King’s County, Nova Scotia, or from another Crowe who emigrated some generations ago. The family tree on this website only shows the family members who are closely related to the 19th-century artist Eyre Crowe, because this is the person who I am chiefly interested in. I haven’t done a comprehensive Crowe family tree. Good luck with your genealogical research and finding out more about Odell Crowe! Kathryn

  16. Samantha Huff says:

    Hi Kathryn,

I came across this wonderful set of family information while researching my husband’s family tree, I am currently trying to establish whether his great grandmother is in fact Eyrielle Edith Crowe (1891), who married Frank Foster. I wonder if you are able to confirm whether their daughter, Elisabeth E Foster, was married to Charles P Huff? Any information would be very gratefully received!

    Regards,

    Samantha Huff

    • Kathryn Summerwill says:

Hi Samantha. I don’t know much about this branch of the family, but I had a quick look at the FreeBMD website and can see that Elizabeth E. Foster married Charles P Huff in the Settle registration district of Yorkshire in the March quarter of 1940. Also that Elisabeth E. Foster’s birth was registered in Preston, Lancashire, in 1916 and that her mother’s surname was Crowe. It is not possible to tie these two events together for sure – and note the different spelling of her first name – except by ordering the marriage certificate of Elizabeth and Charles. It should give the name of her father – if it’s Frank then it would be a pretty safe bet that the two Elizabeth/Elisabeths are the same, and that your husband is indeed a descendant of Eyre Evans Crowe. Do let me know how you get on! Kathryn

  17. Samantha Huff says:

    Hi Kathryn,

I thought it might be a long shot, but it was worth asking. Great minds think alike, I have ordered the marriage certificate, but impatience got the better of me, hence my asking. I’ve looked more closely at the images of the birth record etc and notice that her name is actually spelled with an “s”, it’s only the transcript that shows it with a “z”. Once I get the certificate, I’ll let you know the official outcome!

    Sam

    • Kathryn Summerwill says:

Incidentally,do you already know what the ‘E’ stands for in Elisabeth’s middle name? If it is Eyrielle, that would be cast iron proof of a family connection, as that seems to be a name that was made up by Eyre Evans Crowe and passed down the generations!

  18. Samantha Huff says:

I believe so. When I searched the GRO website, it does show Eyrielle as her middle name. That was one of the things which made me more sure of the connection as it is a pretty unusual name. All of the parts do seem to fit, I just want to dot the i’s and cross the t’s before I let me father-in-law know what I’ve found out. I can’t thank you enough for pulling all of the information together though, it’s brilliant!

  19. William B Crowe says:

    • Sal says:

      Hi,

I’m the grandson of Cyril Marconi Crowe, who had two daughters and two sons, John, Emma, Cheryl and Nick.

I’m looking at establishing an idea of what my family heritage is like and I’d be more than willing to hold conversations with whoever, as I’m stuck on my Father’s side, so want to see how far I can get on my Mother’s.

      Any help would be great
